oldest tori gate...

in Japan.... tori gates are gates to shrines, this stone one was built sometime between 794 - 1192 (Heian Era) making it pretty old in a land of earthquakes....it's evidence of the 'safeness' of yamagata! its 3.5m's high.....you can see the small shinto shrine and modern red painted metal tori gates too..

Nice photo!!
I think that it looks motoki-no-torii(元木の鳥居) and one of the oldest torii in Japan. And it is great heritage of Yamagata.
